Hiring up by 18% in India, shows Naukri study

According to naukri.com's Job Speak Index, there has been an 18 per cent growth in hiring activity in the country in the last year (August 2013 to August 2014).

How did Mumbai fare?
Among the cities that were part of the study, Mumbai reported the lowest hiring growth of 11 per cent while Delhi saw the highest growth of 24 per cent.

Which industry showed the highest growth?
Among the industries, the telecom industry has recorded the highest growth of 36 per cent, closely followed by the banking and BPO sectors which have both grown by 26 per cent.
According to a senior official of the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection said, "The increase in banking officers' recruitment has gone up from 21,000 to 22,000. At the clerk level, there has been a rise from 31,000 to 35,000. On an average there will be a recruitment of 50,000 employees in public sector banks in the next three to four years."

This opinion does not appear to be coinciding with the growth of 26% shown by the Index.

However, Sumeet Singh senior vice-president marketing, Corporate Communications and Strategic Alliances Info Edge (India) Ltd said, "Hiring activity has seen growth in the past six months with the Index showing consistent levels of growth especially in the IT and BPO sectors."

Why is the pharma sector growing slowly?
"I concur with the growth figures of 26 per cent in the outsourcing sector with regards to my company that had also seen a 15 per cent increase in the pharmaceutical department. This growth is quite likely to rise. The reason why the pharma sector grows slowly is because global players face competition from the generic medicines that are so readily available in India. However, they will continue to grow as it is an industry that is least affected by market factors," said, Armaan Singh Sandhu, a senior analyst at Kinapse, a firm based in Delhi.
