Making strides in Indian cinema, this would be the first queer film that has won so many international awards — 13 to be precise. Evening Shadows, a Hindi feature film about a mother coming to terms with her son's sexuality and grappling with acceptance within a conservative society, has been screened at more than 50 international film festivals across the world since its premiere in February this year at Mardi Gras film festival in Sydney. Makers of the movie, which may release early next year, hope that the international recognition will make the movie a commercial success.

The film has won jury and audience awards for the best feature, and lead actress Mona Ambegaonkar has brought laurels for her performance. Director Sridhar Rangayan too has been awarded for his direction and furthering the queer cinema movement in India.

"We are overwhelmed with the response and awards showered on the film across the world. More than the awards, its the appreciation from the audience that has touched our hearts," said Sridhar Rangayan.

The film has been screened in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, Romania, Ecuador, Germany, South Korea, China, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Kosovo, Peru and India.

"It is very heartening that we have been able to reach out to audiences in even far away countries like Romania, Peru, Ecuador and even Kosovo! 'Evening Shadows' is a universal story that touches every heart," said Saagar Gupta, producer, creative director and dialogue writer of the film.

The film has received a UA certificate by the censor board and is being readied for a theatrical release in January 2019.

Very few LGBT feature films that have managed to catch the imagination of the common man. There are movies like My Brother Nikhil, Aligarh that have made a mark.
