State disaster management control room has issued a high alert advisory of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and North Konkan up to July 13. The district administration has been asked to take necessary steps including evacuation of people residing in low-lying areas and deployment of boats and other rescue gadgets.

State disaster management control room situated on the first floor of Mantralaya is keeping a constant touch on an hourly basis with the district collectors and exchanging inputs on management of ground level situation. An officer from the state rehabilitation department told DNA,'' Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and North Konkan are expected to witness heavy to heavy rainfall and the high alert has been sounded. 

Today, Palghar received 127.4 mm, Raigad 105.8 mm, Mumbai city 89.12 mm, eastern suburbs 58 mm, western suburbs 75.09 mm, Ratnagiri 74.9 mm and Sindhudurg 68.3 mm. The rainfall is upto 4 pm.''

The officer said the Thane district administration swung into action and 26 families were moved to a safer place after a portion of hillock was collapsed in the powerloom Bhiwandi. In the last 24 hours, Bhiwandi has recorded 125 mm of rainfall. In Vasai, lunch boxes were given to stranded people.
