After the recent killing of Monginis shop owner, Angara Pujari, allegedly by cronies of gangster Hemant Pujari, a Goregaon bar owner was allegedly threatened by Hemant Pujari. The latter claimed that Angara was gunned down by his man and if the bar owner did not shell out money, he would be next on his hit list.
An officer said, “A few hours after Angara’s killing, Hemant Pujari called a Goregaon hotel owner and threatened him that he would be the next target if he did not pay up. This confirmed that Angara was killed by Pujari’s man. The hotel owner approached the police and narrated the call.”
“Pujari had called Angara in February 2010 and demanded Rs50 lakh. After that Angara had filed a complaint with the anti-extortion cell of the city crime branch and three members of the Pujari gang were arrested.”
On March 19, Angara, 75, who ran the cake shop in Goregaon(W) was gunned down from a point-blank range by Mukesh Sharma alias Kabir Husen Noor Islam Suleman Sardar, 29, an alleged member of Pujari’s gang.
Sardar entered posing as a customer and bought a pastry. He paid and left but returned after a while and shot Angara. He fled but hawkers chased him and caught him and handed him over to the police. During the investigation, the police came to know that one more person was present at the spot and keeping a watch outside the shop. After the shooting, he escaped.
“The second accused has been identified, but he is still at large. He does not stay in one place for more than one day. We are trying our best and will catch him soon,” the officer added.
