Sethi informed that FIRs have been lodged against 15 drivers, while others have been fined. She explained that after passengers or citizens lodge a complaint on the helpline, the department takes action, but it is not told to the citizens.
While the transport department will continue its drive against errant auto and taxi drivers, the transport commissioner's office will soon instal a software for its helpline to make consumer grievance redressal more efficient.
Transport minister Diwakar Raote, in a press conference on Monday, said that in the last 15 days the drive against auto and taxi drivers has resulted in action against 1,275 taxi drivers and 3,760 auto drivers. He added that the drive was undertaken under the leadership of transport commissioner Soniya Sethi — 18 flying squads, 36 inspectors from the transport department and 18 assistant police inspectors, along with 36 constables, checked into instances of autos and taxis rejecting passengers, calibration of metres and other aspects. Raote said that fine worth Rs7.34 lakh was recovered from errant drivers.
Sethi informed that FIRs have been lodged against 15 drivers, while others have been fined. She explained that after passengers or citizens lodge a complaint on the helpline, the department takes action, but it is not told to the citizens. She also said that that is the reason there is a sense of dissatisfaction among people, and, to remove it, her office is introducing a system wherein citizens will be informed of action taken on their grievance.
Sethi said that as it is under Right to Services Act, the government will be including services from the transport department and all services of the department could be brought online in a phased manner.
