Expect 13 blocks or traffic diversions on Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the coming days starting from Thursday when the Pune bound traffic between Shedung and Khalapur will be diverted on old Mumbai-Pune Highway. This because the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is going to carry out work for installing signboards for road safety on the Expressway.

On Thursday the block will be for around one hour between 12 and 1 pm on Pune bound lane of the expressway, and in the coming days too, MSRDC plans to take blocks for the installation of total 13 gantries.

The signboards, also known as gantries, will be displaying safety measures that a driver has to take while plying on Expressway that includes of not cutting lane from the left-hand side, wearing a seatbelt and following traffic rules.

Of these 13 signboards, four will be also displaying messages relating to the traffic situation, planned blocks, diversions of traffic on Expressway along with also displaying information relating to weather and rockfall mitigation for the ghat section.

An MSRDC official said, "We are going to install around 13 gantries, and the first one will be installed on Thursday for which one hour block will be undertaken. Considering Thursday's installation will be the first one, it will take one hour but the remaining will be done in lesser time than one hour."

The MSRDC official added, "The aim is to install all the gantries by year end but we will have to plan blocks keeping in mind the festival season when there is more traffic. We will prepare a plan and submit to state highway police, accordingly."

Daily more than one lakh vehicles ply using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway that is the first Expressway built in India. Meanwhile, the MSRDC also had taken similar blocks on the Expressway earlier this year for pre-monsoon preparations that include relating to ensuring that there is no rock fall in the ghat section that has resulted in fatal accidents in the past.
