The Bombay high court on Monday held a discussion on whether the present permissible noise levels should be revised in order to strike a balance between the celebration of cultural events and law enforcement.

Advocates for several petitioners said, “There has to be balance, and in a city like Mumbai where the sound levels are already high, the permissible limit should be raised so that the law can be properly adhered to.”

Senior police officer Sadanand Date said, “Sound mapping needs to be done.”

The court, while posting the discussion to December 11, asked the Centre whether there is any proposal to change the present limits.
