The Bombay high court has recently acquitted a man of abetting the alleged suicide of his newly-wed wife 24 years ago.
Acquitting Balkrishna Eknath Dubal, the HC also paid cognizance to the ambivalent evidence as to whether Shoba Dubal committed suicide or died of accidental fire as per the evidence of fire officer and fireman. Married to Dubal on May 29, 1988, Shobha succumbed to burn injuries on December 07, 1988.
After Shoba’s death, her father Atmaram Ghadge lodged a complaint against Balkrishna and his parents Eknath and Parubai Dubal under Sections 498(A), 306, 304-B, 342, 506 of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Justice RC Chavan ruled out any possibility of enhancement of their sentence as demanded by the state in 1993, he also quashed and set aside their conviction.
