The late Appasaheb Jalgaonkar Smruti Samvadini Wadan Puraskar was bestowed on  noted harmonium player Sudhanshu Kulkarni by noted painter Ravi Paranjape on Sunday evening.

The award is given in the memory of harmonium maestro Appasaheb Jalgonkar who accompanied Bharat Ratna awardee Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Kulkarni, who hails from Belgaum, is a disciple of the late Rambhau Vijapure. The award is sponsored by Ganvardhan, an organisation which provides a platform for music lovers. The award includes Rs5,000 cash and a citation.

Ravi Paranjape said, “Getting an award named after Jalgaonkar is great a responsibility and I am sure Kulkarni will fulfil it.’’ Kulkarni expressed gratitude for honouring him with the award named after the great harmonium player. “

One can’t claim to have complete knowledge of music. Hence, I would like to be a student of music all my life,’’  said Kulkarni.
