A 20-year-old homemaker, who could not tolerate the alleged physical and mental harassment and incessant dowry demands by her mother-in-law and husband, committed suicide by jumping to death at 11.45a.m on Wednesday.

Sushma Patil ,20, sustained head injuries and died while being rushed to Sion hospital.
The Wadala Truck Terminal (WTT) police station arrested Nirmala (mother-in-law) and Santosh (husband) on Thursday. While Santosh was remanded in police custody till June 4 by the Bhoiwada metropolitan Magistrate’s court, Nirmala has been sent to judicial custody.
Sushma’s father Balasaheb Vishnu Jawalkar approached the WTT police and filed a case of dowry harassment. Sushma and Santosh were in love and tied the knot four months ago against the wishes of Sushma’s parents.
