Gurugram man speeds off with traffic cop on his car bonnet for 100 metres

A 32-year-old man dragged a traffic police officer on his car bonnet for over 100 metres when he was stopped by the cops for driving on the wrong side. The incident occurred on Thursday evening near Hotel Plazio in Gurugram's sector 29 area. The man was driving a Ford EcoSport car bearing a Delhi Police sticker.

The accused, identified as Karan Katpal, was driving a blue colour EcoSport car when he was flagged down by constable Praveen after he spotted him driving on the wrong side.

Karan stopped his car but when asked to produce the documents, he instead started fighting with the traffic officials. Karan even dialled a number on his phone, apparently of Station House Officer (SHO) of sector -29, and asked Praveen to speak to him. The traffic officials refused to speak over the phone and asked him to handover the keys in order to impound the vehicle. When the police officers asked him how he had a Delhi Police sticker, he said his uncle was in the Delhi Police.

As per a complaint filed by constable Praveen, he along with ASI Rajesh and constable Kapil were on duty near Plazio hotel when a car bearing number HR 26 CC- 7878 came from the wrong side and it was speeding and rashly driven. "Rajesh flagged down the car and asked the driver to produce his driving license and other documents. Karan refused to give his documents and in fact dared the traffic officials to do whatever they want. He also said that he would run the car over them. He then drove his car and hit me, making me fall on the bonnet. The driver continued driving even though I was hanging on the bonnet," said Praveen in the FIR.

On the other hand Karan stated that he had received a call from his home and had lost his senses as he was informed that his mother was detected with cancer. "I accept my mistake," he said soon after he was arrested by the police. The car belongs to Karna and he even refuted claims of his uncle being an officer with Delhi Police.

THE COMPLAINT
