The Matunga police have arrested a software engineer based in Gujarat for allegedly duping people by posting advertisement on social media for electronic gadgets and never delivering them to those who ordered. Investigation has revealed that the accused duped several people in foreign countries too using the same modus operandi.

According to the police, a 22-year-old woman, came across an advertisement on her social media page for a branded mobile for Rs 21,400. When the woman found the offer appealing, she contacted Bhavik Chandegra (22) on the number given below. She also enquired with Chandegra about the authenticity of the offer and showed her interest to buy the phone.

On October 3, the woman transferred Rs 10,400 to his e-wallet account and asked to send her the phone. However, Chandegra was demanding full payment and also refused to send her the delivery of the package. The woman paid the remainder amount and asked for the delivery of the phone.

After two weeks of waiting in vain, the woman approached Matunga police. Investigation into the case revealed that the accused was a Surat-based software engineer, who had duped many people in foreign countries using a similar modus operandi.
