The state cabinet has decided on the crop-wise financial assistance to be given to farmers who suffered losses due to untimely rains in the state.

Grape growers in western and north Maharashtra have got the highest assistance of Rs20,000 per hectare.

This amount will include the relief given to the farmers on loan interest. Orange growers will gets Rs15,000 per hectare; the fruit recorded losses on nearly 67,000 hectares.

Two weeks ago, the state government announced a package of Rs1,000 crore for farmers. It has now decided on the break-up per crop. According to the estimates of district-level surveys, the total loss of crops was on nearly 10 lakh hectares. The cabinet decided to provide assistance up to 2 hectares per farmer.

The paddy crop has recorded the biggest loss, and the government has announced an assistance of Rs7,500 per hectare for the paddy growers. Onion farmers will get an assistance of Rs7,000 per hectare, while other crop growers will get Rs5,000 per hectare.

The financial assistance announced is based on the panchanamas registered by district administrations and the amount will be credited in the farmers’ accounts.
