The Vikhroli police said Rekha, who has confessed to the crime, revealed that she was against the marriage of her son Arvind with his daughter-in-law Kajal. Rekha did not even go to see the baby, Varsha, when she was born.

The murder took place at Nirbhavane chawl, Tagore Nagar, Vikhorli (East).  Around 3 am, when Kajal woke up to check on Varsha, she found that the baby had been throttled with the rope used to rock her cradle.

“Once the autopsy report confirmed murder, we questioned the family members, which led to Rekha’s arrest. She will be produced in court on Sunday,” said Mahipat Indalkar, senior inspector of Vikhroli police station.
