Mohamad Hanif Shaikh alias Salim Patri had cases of attempt to murder, robbery, rioting registered against him and was also booked under Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act and externed from the area a few months ago.
A 35-year-old history-sheeter was stabbed to death by unidentified persons near his Govandi residence on Thursday night.
A police officer said, “It is suspected that the accused were the deceased’s friends who got into some dispute with him as they suspected he was passing information about their illegal activities to the police and wanted them trapped.”

He had returned after serving the externment term recently and stayed with his mother in Indira Nagar.
Patri’s mother said two to three persons came to meet him at his residence and took him out. After some time they had a heated argument with Patri some distance from the house. The accused then allegedly attacked Patri with choppers and knife and fled. Few locals who saw Patri on the road informed his mother and helped her take him to Shatabdi hospital.
He was declared dead before admission and his body was sent for post-mortem. He died of injuries to his chest, stomach and neck and heavy blood loss.
