Gopinath Munde’s daughters hurt in bike accident

A 20-year-old biker was arrested by the Worli police late on Friday for allegedly knocking down and injuring two daughters of senior BJP leader and former deputy chief Minister Gopinath Munde.

Senior police inspector Bharat Worlikar of Worli police station said, “Shamsunder Murthy Pilla, a resident of Worli Koliwada, was booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) IPC. He was produced before the Bhoiwada metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday and released later,” said Worlikar. Shamsunder had not consumed alcohol and had a valid driving license.

Pankaja, an MLA and Munde’s elder daughter, has sustained minor injuries and may be discharged by Sunday evening. Pritam, Munde’s younger daughter and a doctor, has received multiple injuries to her head and is in the ICU at Lilavati Hospital. A family member says that a CT scan will again be done on Sunday morning to ascertain further treatment. “She is stable and under observation,” he says. Munde has postponed all his programmes, while BJP workers and leaders visited the two.

Shamsunder, a college student, was going towards Worli naka from Sir Pochkhanwala Road at around 11.25 pm to buy medicines for his ailing relative. He lost his balance on his Discovery motorbike and knocked down Munde’s daughters,who were walking on the footpath from their residence at Poorna building to Godavari building located on Sir Pochkhanwala Road at Worli.
