Good news: Airlines on hiring spree

Looking to expand operations in India, several airlines are on a hiring spree. This comes as good news for pilots and crew members, many of whom lost their jobs due to the rough patch the aviation industry faced over the past two years. 

The trend seems significant in view of Tuesday’s report released by aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which claimed India will lead the world in domestic growth in aviation sector over the next two decades.

Jet Airways and its Gulf-based partner Etihad Airways are among the leading airlines who are hiring. Etihad recently completed several rounds of interviews in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. According to the airline officials, more than 1,000 cabin crew aspirants applied, and around 200 were picked. The airline is planning to triple its frequency from Mumbai and Delhi. “There was a rush of candidates during the interview process,” said a reliable source.

Jet Airways, one of the leading airlines in the country, too announced vacancies for cabin crew, pilots, medical officers, and other administrative jobs. The airline is reportedly planning to add another five aircraft to its present fleet of 94 aircraft. This is apart from the two ATR aircraft which are expected to be added soon.

Similarly, Air Asia, which partnered with Tata Sons for its launch, expected later this year is said to be on continuous hiring drive to get all set before its big launch. Malindo Air, another Malaysia-based airline which is in the last stage of getting approvals from Indian aviation authorities is too believed to considering the hiring process from local pilots and cabin crews. “The opportunities are coming now, after stagnation of over a year,” said Afzal Zahur, an Andheri resident who recently applied for a job with both Jet Airways and Air Asia.
