Gone in a night: 11 car music systems stolen in Mumbai

Some thieves in Dahisar probably had a ‘sound’ night’s sleep on Thursday night, after stealing car music systems from 11 cars parked in three housing societies.

Surprisingly, they stole the booty by breaking car windows and the matter only came to the notice of building watchmen on Friday morning.

On the night of December 16, 11 cars were parked in three housing societies – Dharam Palace, Koyna Apartments and Godavari Complex in Dahisar (E). 

“Around midnight, some thieves broke the car windows, stole the music systems,” says a police official from Dahisar police station.

The music systems were in the range of Rs8,000 to Rs16,000.

From Godavari Complex and Koyna Apartments, the thieves stole from three cars each and five cars in Dharam Palace were broken into. 

The matter came to light when the watchman of one of the buildings went to wash the cars in the parking area and found glass pieces on the floor. 

“A man by the name Suresh Chavan has two cars – Honda Getz and Xylo, and the systems from both worth Rs 18,000 have gone missing,” says the official.

Residents of the area jointly lodged a complaint at the Dahisar police station.The cops have registered a case under sections 379 (theft) and 427(mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

“The matter is being investigated,” said an official.

Perturbed by this event, residents of the area have demanded police patrolling at night.

“It’s quite surprising that in one night, 11 cars were broken into and nobody noticed it. We want police to patrol the area at night. This area has also become a hot-bed for chain snatchers,” revealed a resident from Godavari Complex.
