1,450 wards from 186 Panchayats in Goa will go to election today. While 55 panch members have been already elected unopposed, 70 wards have been declared as sensitive.

43 wards from North Goa and 27 wards from South Goa have been declared as sensitive and increased police force has been deployed in these locations.

Elections in 15 wards have been postponed to July 1 following an intense legal battle in court on the reservation issue.

While election results of 176 panchayats will be declared on June 13 the remaining 10 will be declared on July 2. Results of these panchayats will be kept on hold as 15 different wards from these panchayats will go for election on July 1. So results of rest of the wards also will be kept pending.

The election will see the participation of 6,500 government officials with polling booths being handed over to election officials. Each booth will be manned by two policemen.

7 lakh 49 thousand 686 voters are eligible to vote in these elections. 21 mamlatdars will be functioning as poll officials. Ballot papers will be used for voting which will commence at 8 am and end at 5 pm.
