Five more people are likely to be arrested for the murder of Ghatkopar-based diamond merchant Rajseshwar Udani (57), according to the Pant Nagar police. While seeking police custody of arrested accused Sachin Pawar — former personal assistant of a politician — the police told the court that as the investigation of the case is complicated and technical in nature, more facts needs to be examined. The police has already arrested a suspended police constable, Dinesh Pawar for being allegedly involved in plotting the conspiracy with Sachin and executing the crime outside the city limits.
After being produced at Bhoiwada court on Sunday, Sachin was sent to police custody till Friday so the police can ascertain the motive behind the murder. While giving its submission to court, the police said that the murder was planned precisely, factoring every minute detail to ensure nothing goes wrong.
According to the police, Udani, Sachin and Dinesh were residents in the same locality and knew each other. While the actual motive is still being investigated, the police informed the court that Udani had given Rs 75,000 to Sachin at the time of his daughter's wedding that he failed to repay. This led to a fracture in their relationship. Another theory the police claims to be working on is that Udani had developed an interest in Sachin's live-in partner, a popular television actress.
"Apart from money, Udani and Sachin had others issues as well which is being investigated, due to which Sachin and Dinesh planned the murder. Before Udani went missing, Sachin while chatting with him over social media said that the time has come to clear his debt. As per the preliminary investigation, Sachin's Call Detail Record (CDR) showed a number being reflected several times which was of a person who used to change number plates of cars. The man turned out to be a witness and he said that Sachin had asked him to change the number plate of a white i10 suspected to be used for the murder," said a police officer investigating the case.
