A BMC garbage van ran over a 59-year-old man while reversing near Sai Baba Complex in Goregaon (East) on Thursday.
The deceased, Narayan Nanda, a resident of Sai Baba Complex had gone to buy groceries in the neighbourhood around 10am. A police officer said, “The BMC dumper was reversing after picking up garbage from a bin in the lane. The dumper driver was reversing to get out of the lane when it hit Nanda who was coming out on the main road.”
Nanda, who did not see the dumper reversing, was crushed under the rear wheels. He sustained major head injuries and was declared dead before admission at Bhagwati Hospital.
The driver, Mantoo Shaikh, 43, has been arrested by the Dindoshi police for rash driving and casuing death due to negligence. He is a resident of Ashok Nagar in Goregaon (East).
Nanda’s body has been handed over to the family.
