Though there were complaints of high noise levels as well as 10 pm deadline being breached, anti-noise pollution activists maintained that large-scale awareness has played an active role in citizens promptly registering complaints of noise violations.

Meanwhile Sanjay Salunke of Awaaz Foundation who recorded noise level on October 13 the day when the deadlines were relaxed till midnight said that at 98.6dB, the highest noise level was recorded at Kora Kendra, Borivali, followed by Falguni Pathak's garba near Late Shri Pramod Mahajan Sports Complex in Chikuwadi, Borivali where the maximum noise level recorded was 98.2dB. At 94.4dB, Kandivali link road's garba was third noisiest.

A senior police official said that Mumbai police was prompt in responding to complaints of noise pollution on its control room as well as its twitter handle. "We had asked all police stations to implement the High Court order on noise pollution strictly. Buildings and large residential complexes followed the noise deadline. In some cases, there were complaints about a few areas and from few slums to which our staff immediately responded," he said adding that the department was in process of preparing the data of complaints registered on various mediums.

Dr Mahesh Bedekar, a Gynecologist who runs a hospital in Thane and had filed a PIL against the noise during religious festivals said that incessant honking of vehicles outside some venues like the one at Jambli naka had led to noise pollution in parts of the city.

"Navratri is usually held within private spaces such as housing societies and it is heartening to know that citizens have been proactive this year in making numerous complaints to the police when decibel levels were violated. This is what makes the noise pollution campaign a citizens' movement," said Abdulali adding that it is evident from multiple complaints at some locations that enforcement mechanisms have sometimes proved inadequate and much more needs to be done on a regular basis to ensure enforcement of rules and court orders.
