After DNA had earlier reported that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be filing a defamation case against Samir Arora, who fell into the open manhole at Phoenix Marketcity, Twitter went abuzz with what looked like a sarcasm-filled praise for the BMC. While doing so, Arora tagged DNA's story on the civic body looking to file a defamation case against him.

Arora tagging the aforementioned story wrote, "This is to put on record that BMC is the best municipal corporation in the world. We are all very proud of BMC. I hope all Mumbaikars will join me in applauding the services delivered by this very great organisation." Others followed suit. Most Twitteratis took on BMC in a serious, as well as in a humorous way.

Arora, a well-known funds manager and founder of a Singapore-based financial advisory firm had fallen into an open manhole in Mahalaxmi. His friend Neeraj Batra tweeted the episode and blamed the BMC. It later came to light that the manhole belonged to Laxmi Woollen Mills Estate and the BMC sent a notice to DM Shah, the director of the society and asked for an explanation. However, in the meantime, the BMC faced a lot of criticism over its poor services and it then, decided to file a defamation case against Arora and other Twitteratis who attacked the civic body without verifying the facts.

On Friday, after Arora's tweet, twitteratis complemented both BMC and him. Rohan Shroff spoke in BMC's favour saying, "Claims should have been verified before accusing anyone. It's a private contractor who would be sleeping in his plush Mumbai bungalow."

"We revel in their greatness every single day. It is because of the BMC that we are a great Smart city today and becoming smarter every day" read a tweet with twitter handle @mrsinghCricUmp. @RoadsOfMumbai replied, "We Mumbaikars will start suing BMC then likewise for their failure to provide basic footpaths and pothole-free roads." Vipul from @vipulchandhok tweeted, "In Monsoon, all Mumbaikars should file a case against BMC."

One sarcastic tweet read: "Sir ji this is not a manhole, it is a footprint of YETI," by @bharatkothari2, "Feni cyclone coming from underground in Mumbai," was another one by @javed_hakim. "Is it the same spot you went missing underground suddenly like the Bermuda triangle type? Is BMC filing a case against you because you trespassed through a manhole, their underground restricted access area?" by @ Ravi.
