Full-size Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue unveiled at Koyasan

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that while Koyasan is celebrating its 1200'th founding year, the full-size statue of a true Buddhist Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar from Maharashtra was an invaluable gift to the people of Koyasan.

Chief minister Fadnavis unveiled the full-size statue of Dr Ambedkar at Mount Koyasan ,which was founded as a monastry for Buddhist training 1,200 years ago. Wakayama governor Yoshinobu Nisaka, industries minister Subhash Desai, Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athavale, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Sabale, former minister of state Sulekha Kumbhare were present at the function. Fadnavis and Governor Nisaka also graced the occasion for signing a memorandum of understanding between Kosayan and Marathwada Universities.

Fadnavis said that while the Maharashtra government prepares for celebrating the 125'th birth anniversary of the Father of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, it coincides with the historic anniversary of Koyasan. The chief minister said that he was proud to hail from the city of Nagpur where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism. Recalling the contribution of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the chief minister said that it was Babasaheb who not only strived hard for bringing about equality in divided India and gave Constitutional provisions for bringing about equality. He lauded Dr Ambedkar for his contribution for making provisions in the Constitution to bring about these desired changes in the society so that the interest of the downtrodden is also protected.

Wakayama Governor Nisaka said that it was a matter of pride for that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue was unveiled at Koyasan which is the oldest Buddhist training centre. He said that Dr Ambedkar introduced modern India to the Buddhist philosophy exact;y on the lines of Bhante Kobo Dayashi after founding the Koyasan sanctury introduced Buddhism to Japan. 1200 years back.
