Three teenagers were on Sunday arrested on the charges of abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl from Kurla (East).
The girl, who lives in Vatsalatai Naik Nagar at Kurla (E) with her uncle and aunt, reportedly left home with three friends at 6pm on September 19 without informing her guardians to celebrate her birthday. When she failed to return that night, the aunt lodged a missing person complaint in which she raised the suspicion that two 19-year-old residents of Lal Dongar in Chembur — Mahesh Kamble and Vicky alias Vikas Avasarmal — had a hand in her disappearance. Kamble and Avasarmal were detained for interrogation on September 22. The two revealed that they took the Class VIII student to Girgaum Chowpatty to celebrate her birthday. But the girl was asked to be dropped at 18-year-old boyfriend and labourer Arif Sayeed's house at Chembur-Vashi Naka. The two then took her to Sayyed's house.
A police team went to Sayeed's house and found the girl, who claimed that Sayyed had raped her. The police sent her and Sayyed for medical examination. Dhananjay Bhagayatkar, senior inspector, revealed that the girl's medical report confirmed that she had been raped.
