A year ago, Dishant started a group ‘The Giving Monk’ along with his two best friends, Miloni Visaria and Piyush Kamdar. The group aims at feeding the homeless people on Sundays.

On Monday, during Padwa, over 12 volunteers of The Giving Monk will been seen on city streets at various areas between Andheri to Malad distributing milk bottles, biscuits and sheera (a homemade sweetmeat).

“Anybody is welcome to join us as a volunteer to distribute the food material. While, we will be distributing homemade sweet made by my mother, we will also make sure to distribute at least 365 milk bottles, to symbolise the new year,” said Dishant Sheth, Andheri resident.

The group is not only welcoming volunteers but also funding for the initiative. “We are also looking for funds to raise the cost of this Diwali initiative. The estimated cost of the initiative on Padwa is approximately over Rs 8,000. We haven’t mapped out specific areas, however, we will be going around Andheri to Malad and giving out food supplies to the homeless we meet on our way,” Sheth added.
