Saeed Mirza, chairman, FTII said, “We are planning to get better facilities and build a brand new theatre. It will be a modern theatre where more than 400 to 500 viewers can sit at a time. Apart from films made by students, movies from all over the world will also be screened in the new theatre.”

Mirza further added, “The budget will be decided by an expert committee and then the financial and structural plans have to be approved by the ministry of information and broadcasting.”

The current main theatre was previously a studio of Prabhat Film Company and later it was converted into a film theatre in the early 60’s. It has 217 seats and since there are more than 400 students studying in the institute, it can’t accommodate all of them. Most probably, the new theatre will be built at the place of old canteen opposite to the main theatre.

According to Mirza, along with building the theatre, FTII is also planning demarcation of various places for the students of various courses such as acting, sound, direction, editing and others.
