A woman who burgled houses using a burqa in areas of Badlapur, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar has been arrested by the Ulhasnagar crime branch. The woman would first enter buildings in a burqa to do a recce. She would then break into these houses and burgle them.
For the past few months, daylight burglaries in the residential areas of Badlapur-Ambernath had been giving the police sleepless nights. “We did technical analysis and on the basis of CCTV images found a burqa-clad lady going into and coming out of buildings where these crimes were committed,” said a cop from Ulhasnagar crime branch.
The women in burqa was identified as a 33-year-old Shirin Shaikh from Ambernath west. “When we started investigating, we learned that Shaikh was the only woman in the area who stepped out in a burqa. And we started keeping a watch on her.”
