According to the police, Umrothkar was alone at home on Monday after his son had left the house for his work place. Around 6 pm when Umrothkar's son returned home he found his father hanging from the ceiling fan of his third floor residence in a chawl.

The police was alerted and the body was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared dead before admission. "We visited the spot and have registered an accidental death report in the matter.

Umrothkar did not leave any suicide note behind. However, the family as well the police suspect that he may have committed suicide as he was fed up with his prolonged illness," said Sanjay Kamble, senior police Inspector of VP Road Police Station.

Umrothkar is survived by his wife, married daughter and a son with whom he would live in the Girgaum chawl. The body was sent for postmortem and the police are awaiting the postmortem report.
