A fake screenshot carrying the logo of a Marathi channel and Uddhav Thackeray's picture claims that that the Maharashtra chief minister has announced a 15-day strict lockdown after an increase in spread of COVID-19 cases has gone viral on social media.

This fake news has now spread across various social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter. 

The screenshot claimed that the Maharashtra CM announced a 15-day statewide lockdown from March 1. 

It is important for our viewers to note that Maha Vikas Aghadi government has not announced any decision regarding the matter.

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, fresh restrictions and curbs have been imposed in several districts and cities in the state. Maharashtra reported 6,971 new COVID-19 cases and 35 deaths on Monday. 

A total of 51,788 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the state so far. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday (February 21), announced that all political, religious, and social gatherings will be prohibited in the state from Monday (February 22), amid rising COVID-19 cases.
