F1 action on Mumbai streets

Motorheads in the city will get the opportunity of a lifetime on Sunday evening as Lewis Hamilton gets behind the wheels of his McLaren Mercedes. Hamilton’s sortie, part of the Vodafone Speedfest, will be held on a three kilometre stretch at Bandra-Kurla Complex.

Hamilton, known as ‘Box Office’ in the F1 circuit for his aggressive driving style, will perform some doughnuts and accelerate from 0 to 200kmph in matter of seconds. This is slow by F1 standards, but will be breathtaking nevertheless. This will be second F1 roadshow in Mumbai after David Coulthard zipped down the Bandra-Worli Sealink in 2009.

Hamilton is no stranger to the city. His first visit was in 2008 for a go-karting event at Powai. An excited Hamilton said in a statement that he is looking forward to the adrenaline rush. “I am really excited to be coming to Mumbai this time. I was overwhelmed by the excitement in Bangalore last year and I am hoping that the excitement will be better in Mumbai,” he said.
