Out of the six companies that had come forward for the works, IRB Infrastructure bagged the job. IRB Infrastructure is currently the toll collection agency on the 95km-long Expressway.

"Widening of roads, construction of bridges, underpass, vehicular subway, operation

and maintenance of the Expressway, etc. are part of the work for the project, wherein the toll-collection concession duration is 4 years 3 months and 22 days," informed an official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

As per the final contract, a total expenditure of Rs1,687 crore is involved, including upfront payment of Rs1,000 crore to the MSRDC.

The current toll collection on the Expressway was to end on August 8, 2019, but IRBInfrastructure will continue with it into the next decade as it is supposed to operate and maintain the road connecting the two cities.

Even the toll plazas will be widened from the present 8-lane to 12-lane in order to reduce the overall waiting time of the vehicles. The congestion on the Expressway has forced MSRDC to plan for its capacity augmentation; however, the same proposal has been stuck due to political fight between Congress and NCP-headed MSRDC.Head: What's on the wayFour-laning from Nigdi to Dehu — 6.3kmConstruction of service road from Wadgaon to Maval — 2kmVehicular subway at KamshetFour-laning from Borghat to Khopoli Rest House — 2.7kmFour-laning between Khopoli to Khalapur — 4.93kmWidening of flyover near Kon Junction and four-laning from Kon to ShedungFoot Over Bridge at AjivaliFour-laning between Palaspe and Kalamboli — 6.65kmVehicular underpass at Khonda colonyConstruction of flyover at Kalamboli steel yard junction
