Ex-Tata Steel corporate affairs chief kills himself

Former corporate affairs and communications chief of Tata Steel Charudatta Deshpande committed suicide on Friday. The 58-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan of his Vasai gaon house in the evening. Deshpande, who resided at his Borivli flat visited his his family and friends in Vasai gaon often. 

The police are awaiting Deshpande’s post mortem report. “The dead body was sent for post mortem to Manickpur PHC around 6pm. Prima facie, the reason for his action is believed to be depression,” said Raju Nikumbhe, the investigation officer.

Deshpande went to Vasai with his driver. According to his wife, Deshpande did not receive her repeated phone calls. When she called the driver to know about his whereabouts, the driver knocked on the door but he did not get any response. He then informed all the neighbours who gathered outside the residence. Later, the grills of a window were broken and boy was sent in.

Deshpande had worked in The Daily, The Indian Express, The Economic Times, Business and Political Observer, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel. He was working with Tata Steel till April this year.

A case of accidental death has been registered at the Vasai gaon police station.
