Amboli Police on Wednesday arrested a 26-year-old man with five kilograms of banned Ephedrine drugs worth Rs 20 lakh.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Nadeem Shafiq Khan, a resident of Nalasopara in Palghar.
According to the police, on Tuesday Assistant Police Inspector Daya Nayak was tipped-off about a man carrying Ephedrine who would sell the drug at Sainik Nagar in Andheri (W) the next day.
Subsequently, a trap was laid and the accused, later identified as Khan, was caught with five kilograms of Ephedrine in powdered form worth Rs 20 lakh.
"It is possible that the accused could be in possession of more Ephedrine than what was seized from him. There's also a possibility of more people being involved in the syndicate. We are probing the source of contraband and trying to track down its recipients," said a police officer.
