Encroachments rise in Cuffe Parade, locals lodge plaint

Residents of Cuffe Parade continue to live in continuous encroachment of land in their Backbay Reclamation area near the sea. The residents fear that the encroachment could further push towards the Bayview Marina garden, which has been maintained by the Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA), who have demanded that the encroachments be demolished by the collector’s office.

The residents have complained about illegal encroachments to the Collector of Mumbai, Sampada Mehta, several times. Part demolition was conducted by the collectorate office. The residents are complaining about security issues which could rise due to the illegal constructions near the sea beside the Macchimar Nagar in the Cuffe Parade near Badhwar Park.

“Despite complaining several times, we have failed to get any relief from government authorities. Constructions are rampant and the government officials are turning a blind eye to these illegal activities.” said Padmakar Nandekar, Secretary General, CPRA.

“We are living in continuous fear about the land mafias trying usurp the garden which is maintained by us. The government officials should immediately take action against such activities and remove encroachments.” he said.
