A 70-year-old woman was found dead in her second floor flat at Khar on Thursday.

The police believe Gopi Kushaldas Tulsiani was strangled to death between 11 am and 12.30 pm. “A few of her neighbours have suggested how the accused might look like. We are trying to come out with a sketch,” said a sub-inspector of Khar police station. The accused probably fled through the window after killing the woman, he said.

One of the neighbours said it could be the handiwork of someone known to the family. “The accused knew that her husband leaves the house at 10.30 am every day. He knew where exactly the jewellery and other valuables were kept. The man even took a few bottles of foreign liquor,” she said. The police, however, did not specify the worth of goods stolen.

Tulsiani’s maid was the first to discover her body. When Tulsiani did not respond to her knocks, she got a duplicate key from a neighbour and opened the door. “The maid saw the body and raised an alarm,” she said. Senior police inspector S Shingte, however, said, “I will not give you any details.”
