On the first day, the pandal was visited by devotees, including film producer-director Madhur Bhandarkar who performed the  sthapana aarti (installation prayer) and sought the deity’s blessings.

Bhandarkar announced his support for the campaign and signed a pledge to promote an environment-friendly Ganeshotsav. To affirm his promise, he signed ‘Action is in my DNA’ on the wall.Other celebrities who joined the celebrations included TV actor Hiten Tejwani (Karan of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame). He and other guests joined in the recital of the aarti for the DNA eco-Ganesha.

The DNA eco-Ganesha pandal set up at Oberoi Mall has, apart from the eight-foot papier mache idol, a one-foot shadu mati (clay) idol. Both are eco-friendly and will cause minimal harm to the environment, especially the water body in which they will be immersed.

Through this initiative DNA hopes that the city of Mumbai will use more of such eco-friendly idols and save the environment.
