Shashti, the first day of the Durga Puja festival, was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety at the Kalibari Temple in Khadki, in the presence of a large number of devotees. Hundreds of married women offered prayers under the Bel tree, which is worshiped as part of the Shashti Puja.
Talking to DNA, Subir Gupta, general secretary of the Kalibari Samiti’s Durga Puja committee said, “Shashti Puja is very pious. The formal inauguration of the Durga Puja was done with Devi Bodhan, an act of worship to welcome the goddess at the Kalibari temple in the presence of chief guest, Swami Rameshwaranand from Ramkrishna mission.”
The inauguration was followed by cultural programme where Rabindra sangeet was performed by local artistes. Kalibari will host variety of cultural programmes till Dashami (October 6). The other attraction is of various Bengali cuisine stalls set up near the temple.
