A 22-year-old man has registered a complaint at Borivali police station against two people stating that one of the accused swiftly took Rs 50,000 from his pocket which was later handed over to another accused in a moving Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) bus. Interestingly, the complainant identified as Krishna Kanojiya has alleged that the accused who was standing right next to him in the crowded bus told him that a stinging insect had got into his shirt but by the time, he realized that this was a ploy, it was already too late. The fake storyteller who was trying to flee from the spot was nabbed by Kanojiya and was later brought to the police station but still, the cash continues to remain missing.

According to the Borivali police, Kanojiya is a resident of Anand Nagar area of Dahisar east and stays in a joint family of 7 people. Kanojiya who works as a driver was searching for a spacious room to accommodate his family and for the same, he was saving money since a while. On Wednesday, before leaving for work, Kanokiya gave a signed cheque of Rs 40,000 to his father which was encashed when deposited in the bank.

"Kanojiya had Rs 50,000 with him and his mother also had the same amount which was supposed to be given to Lalluram Kanojiya who was ready to sell his room to the family. Lalluram was waiting for Krishna and his parents at Borivali court so that the cash is delivered and necessary legal documents are signed to transferring the possession. The trio boarded BEST bus number 707 from Anand Nagar and was heading towards the court. As the bus was already crowded, Krishna’s parents were standing near the forward gate while he was standing in the middle. One of the accused managed to stand right next to him and later, he informed that an insect had sneaked inside his shirt and he was also pinching him from the back to make him feel the sting,” said a police officer.

Kanojiya who was protecting the cash kept in his jeans pocket got panicked and removed his hands to unbutton his shirt to get rid of the imaginary insect and within a fraction of second, he felt that the bag of cash was not a the place so he shouted and alerted his father. In the commotion, the accused and his other accomplice swiftly stepped out of the moving bus in reverse direction outside Borivali station.

Speaking to DNA, Kanojiya said, “I was convinced that the insect story was a hoax so I too asked the driver to halt and then I chased the duo and got hold the man standing near me. He said he works for an Ayurvedic shop and fixes dismantled bones. After slapping him, he said the cash was given to his accomplice who managed to flee away. We later took him to the police station where he was arrested and was forced to call his partner who claimed to reach soon with the money but never showed up.

“The arrested accused has been identified as Ghulam Moinuddin Mohammed Hidaitulla (31) who is a resident of Mahim. During interrogation, he revealed that he has done such crimes by diverting the attention of people and triggering panic. Search for his partner and the cash is underway and the case is registered under section 34 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code,” added the officer.
