Matunga police arrested a couple on Friday for allegedly duping college girls by promising them roles in Hindi serials and modelling assignments.

Rahul Dhemla, 31, and his wife Leela, 19, were booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intent) of the IPC.
The cheating came to light when a girl studying at Ruia College, lodged a complaint against the couple, saying they took Rs5,000 from her three months ago promising her role in a Hindi serial. She said she planned to meet the couple in a hotel in Dadar (E).

Accordingly, the police laid a trap and nabbed them, senior police inspector Sunil Deshmukh, of the Matunga police station, said.
Describing the modus operandi, Deshmukh said: “The couple would approach young female students outside colleges and convince them that they could get them work. The couple, would then charge Rs2,000 or Rs5,000, to organise a photo session,” Deshmukh  said. The police claim that most of the victims didn’t file a case as they feared tarnishing the reputation of their families.
