Dumper crushes woman in Andheri

A 26-year-old woman was crushed to death by a dumper in Andheri on Tuesday.

“The driver, Ram Prasad Jaiswal, was arrested from the spot. He has been booked under section 304(a) of the IPC,” senior inspector Shivajiroa Deshmukh of Andheri police station said.

The police said that around 2pm Shelar left her office at JB Nagar in Andheri and was headed towards Kalina for an office meeting.

She was riding a scooty and as she approached the signal below the Andheri flyover on the Western Express Highway, she braked, the police said. However, the vehicle reportedly skid and Shelar came between the front and the rear tyre of a dumper which had stopped at the signal.

The moment she fell down, the signal turned green and the dumper driver started the vehicle without realising that Shelar had fallen down. The driver realised something was amiss only when passers-by started screaming but by then it was too late, the police said.

Shelar was rushed to the nearby Cooper hospital where the doctors declared her dead before admission.

Tushar Malvia, a close friend of the deceased, said, “I have known Anagha for many years. She was basically from Pune and has been riding a scooter since a long time. It is a very unfortunate incident as Anagha and Vivek had completed four months of their marriage on the day she met with the accident.”
