Delay in the execution of CST-Panvel elevated corridor may prove to be a setback for construction of the proposed high-speed metro by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) connecting Mumbai Airport to Navi Mumbai airport, which is under construction.

This is because the high-speed metro corridor will run parallel to the CST-Panvel elevated corridor starting from Mankhurd and will have an intersection near Nerul towards Navi Mumbai airport.

An MMRDA official said, "The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is preparing a detailed report on the project. However, if there is any delay in construction of CST-Panvel corridor, it may delay construction of the proposed high-speed metro connecting the airports."

The MMRDA official added, "This as because the metro corridor will run parallel to the CST-Panvel elevated corridor and will have an intersection near Nerul. Thus, we can't build the metro before construction of CST-Panvel elevated corridor. However, exact alignment is yet to be finalised."

The metro corridor is expected to start from International Airport wherein it is expected to share its terminal with the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor from where it will run underground up to Ghatkopar. From Ghatkopar, it will be elevated till Mankhurd from where further it will meet the proposed CST-Panvel elevated corridor.

The high-speed metro corridor between the two airports is going to be operational round the clock, as per MMRDA's plan. Considering it connects the two airports it will be beneficial for those who have connecting flights from these two airports at night. Though, the frequency at night may not be equal to that during the day where a train will run every 30-40 minutes.
