Sion hospital dean Dr Suleman Merchant said, “I have received a couple of calls enquiring about how they can help the girl. We will have to see how we can make things work for her. My hospital will do everything possible.”

The readers have also approached NGO Childline India Foundation. Nishit Kumar, head communication and strategy,  said they too received calls from people wanting to help the child financially. “The child welfare committee has gotten in touch with us. We will ensure that she is rehabilitated and her father punished,” he said.

Meanwhile, the girl underwent a small operation on Tuesday.
