On January 23, DNA had written about a complaint addressed to the state education minister Vinod Tawde by Manan Parekh, a class XI student from Jai Hind College, stating that the state board textbooks have several grammatical and syntax errors.

In his letter, Parekh had stated that more than the poor binding and the bad quality of pages used for textbooks, it was the poor usage of the language that had created a negative impression about the study material in the minds of students like him. “I love English and feel that one cannot learn the language merely through English as a subject. In all the papers that we have, it should be ensured that the concepts are explained in simple yet correct English. Over 60% content in today’s class XI textbooks is wrongly written or poorly framed. The government should ensure that the quality of textbooks improves” he had said.

The board has now asked the student to furnish more details and has promised to look into the issue. “Usually, the textbooks undergo a rigorous review process before they are printed and mistakes like these are eliminated. However, if there are any errors still, the student can point them out specifically and action would be initiated,” read the letter signed by Krishnakumar Patil, Board Secretary.
