Shiv Sena is gearing up to field youth leader Aaditya Thackeray from the Worli assembly constituency in the ensuing assembly election. The party is leaving no stone unturned for Aaditya's launch in the electoral fray. He has already started reaching out extensively to voters from the constituency which is a mixed bag comprising slums, BDD chawls, and posh and imposing high-rise buildings. On Anant Chaturdashi (September 12), Aadtiya visited more than 21 public Ganapati Mandals to increase his presence. Aaditya is being considered as Shiv Sena's chief ministerial candidate.

Party legislator Anil Parab had recently met workers from Worli including the sitting legislator Sunil Shinde and announced that they have urged the youth leader to contest from there. NCP's former Mumbai unit chief Sachin Ahir, who had recently crossed over to Shiv Sena, has been at the forefront to press for Aaditya's nomination from Worli seat. Both Parab and Ahir hinted that the final decision on Aaditya's candidature will be announced by the Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray after the party finalises a seat-sharing deal with BJP.

The party has scoffed reports of Aaditya considering to contest from rural Maharashtra.

Speaking to DNA, Ahir said, "In Worli, Shiv Sena nominee Arvind Sawant won against Milind Deora with a lead of 74,000 votes during the Lok Sabha election. It has 2.60 lakh voters, of which 60% are Marathi speaking, 10% each scheduled castes, Muslim and 10% others. Shiv Sena has a strong presence in the constituency which is in currently undergoing a massive transformation."

Sena will appeal to the voters saying that Aaditya has become the first in his family to plunge into electoral politics. Further, the party will project Worli as a development model for the rest of the state and seek voters' support.

"Our tag line is 'This is the opportune time to make new Maharashtra' (Hich Ti Vel Navin Maharashtra Ghadvaychi). Worli can be a role model for other towns as it is a commercial and residential hub and also it houses old buildings which await redevelopment," Ahir said.

A senior leader, who did not want to be identified, said, "A section of party workers have still doubts over EVMs as they don't want tampering to impact Aaditya's poll prospects. Therefore, all efforts will be made for higher turnout on the polling day.''
