In a shocking road rage incident, a 29-year-old man suffered several cuts to his face after he was attacked by a sharp object by three persons, including a girl, who is believed to be in her early 20s, on Tuesday night.

Interestingly, the victim along with the three accused, was taken to the Malad police station, but no FIR was registered for almost 24 hours. Finally, the cops registered an FIR on Wednesday against two accused who have been identified as Mihika Wadhone and Siddharth Yadav. However, they are untraceable.

Both have been under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.

Around 11pm on Tuesday, the victim Irwin Cardozo, was returning home from Malad Gymkhana on his bike. When he reached Orlam Church in Malad (W), he spotted a car parked in the middle of the lane, through which Cardozo had to pass.

Cardozo allegedly honked, requesting them to move their car, so that he could go ahead. However, the three occupants started arguing. "The two boys and the girl – who were drunk – also abused Irwin. Irwin retaliated asking them to not block the road and move their vehicle, but they got into a brawl with him," said Rohan Roy, Cardozo's brother-in-law.

He added, "The girl along with the boys attacked Irwin with a sharp object, which we believe was a pocket knife and slashed him all over his face."

In no time crowd gathered and took the trio along with Cardozo to Malad police station. Roy alleged that despite repeated requests, the cops did not take an FIR. "We gathered at the police station and insisted to register and FIR, but the on-duty cop just took down the details of the culprits and allowed them to go," said Roy, adding, "We were told that we should first go to the hospital and get a medical certificate for them to register an FIR."

What was more shocking for the victim's family was that on June 15 in the morning when they again approached the cops they were asked to come in the evening. "In the morning, cops came to Shatabdi hospital where Irwin is admitted to record his statement, but they did not register an FIR," said Roy. He added, "No medical test was also done on them. They were drunk but now nothing can be proved as it's been more than 18 hours since the incident."

Senior inspector Shashank Sandbhor said, "We have registered an and are on the lookout for the accused."

Additional Commissioner of Police (north region) Fateh Singh Patil said, "It's serious case and I will check why the case was not registered on Tuesday night."

He added, "There is clear cut instruction to all the police stations that FIR must be registered immediately if the case is fit enough for a FIR."
