DNA's Winners in Life awards received an overwhelming response as many of the physically challenged citizens shared their success stories and inspired the audience to live a positive and healthy life.

After the selection rounds, the short listed candidates will be awarded in a ceremony to be held on February 28, at FPH building, near Mahalaxmi Racecourse. While this is the third edition of DNA's Winners in Life awards, it will be the first time that physically challenged citizens be awarded.

The jury for the selection round included Atul Chhotubhai Desai, president - Fellowship of the Physically Handicapped, and architect, Amit Mukherji - prosthetist and orthotist, Rajiv R Mishra - Principal Sir JJ college of Architect and Lajwanti D'souza - Senior Editor, DNA.

The jury received more than 260 entries. The selection process was based on various criteria, such as, an innovative idea, the success of their innovative idea, whether it helped people with similar challenges, how much effort was put by an individual and whether the idea was been replicated by others.

Atul Desai, one of the jury member, said, "More than 50 per cent of the stories were inspiring. Getting recognition will give them motivation to get ahead in life and achieve their goals. It will also encourage to showcase their work on a bigger platform."

Rajiv R Mishra, another jury, said, "We were looking for stories that made an impact, and the difference it made in other person's life. We looked at how motivating and inspiring the ideas were. We also judged looking at the candidate's desire to make a difference in order to live a better quality of life."

Agreeing with other jury members, Amit Mukherji, said, "Many of them were reaching out to others to help living an independent life. A person who has already gone through a similar situation knows the pain of the other going through the same situation in life."
