On March 10, residents of Ramnagar (Digha village) held a demonstration at the Thane district collector's office, demanding justice for a 17-year-old Kalwa girl whose corpse was discovered on the railway tracks at Kalwa, minus her private parts. The women demanded that the case be sent to a fast track court and that home minister RR Patil look into the matter.

More than 300 women had gathered at the Thane's collector office to oppose the delay in the investigations. The locals alleged that the girl was raped and murdered, and hence the culprit deserved capital punishment.

The women sat on the road and continuously shouted slogans against the police and the home minister.

Savita Shinde, 25, says, "If we do not oppose the issue now, it will be too late. We want justice. The culprits are caught, but they get out on bail and go back to their old ways. We demand death penalty fr the culprit. Also, the civil surgeon did not conduct the post mortem correctly, thereby confusing the police, too."
