Dharavi killing: Victims friends, family take the onus of nailing down the culprits

While the Dharavi police continue its investigation in the murder of Nooruddin Shaikh (25), who was gunned down near Shamiana Hotel on 90 Feet Road last Friday, friends and family members of the deceased seem to have taken up the onus of nailing down the culprits.

Armed with a recorded telephonic conversation between Nooruddin’s friend and Arun, an alleged accomplice of accused Kudus and Azgar, the deceased’s family and friends met Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik. The audio clip was eventually handed over to the Dharavi police leading to Arun’s arrest.

Confirming the third arrest in the case, ACP Prabhakar Satam refused to divulge any details on the telephone recording. “We have arrested Arun,” he said.

Sources close to the family claimed that the voice on the other side is of Arun’s who was also a friend of Nooruddin. Arun knew that Nooruddin’s murder was on the mind of the accused since long.

 Sources said that the shootout was an outcome of a two-year-old enmity. “Nooruddin’s brother Allaudin’s marriage to his neighbour got cancelled after he was trapped in a narcotics case by the two accused and eventually Azgar married the same girl. However, after Nooruddin’s acquittal in 2009, Azgar broke Alauddin’s phone which had the girl’s picture. Nooruddin in turn roughed up Azgar,” said the source.
