One charred and mangled body was recovered by the Mumbai Fire Brigade and the Police on Saturday afternoon from the rubble, a day after a massive fire in Oshiwara damaged a furniture market.

While the Fire Department continued cooling operations the entire Friday night and on Saturday until late afternoon, local shopkeepers and workshop owners were trying to gather their goods from the muck.

"One body is recovered from the fire spot and people are trying to figure out who the person was. The body is completely charred and beyond recognition. Parts of the body are also ripped apart", said an official.

On Friday a major fire engulfed most parts of furniture market situated on Ghaswala Compound in Oshiwara area of Jogeshwari west. On the basis of versions given by locals, it is suspected that fire sparked off from a welding unit where a labourer was working on a CNG autorickshaw.

Hundreds of retail furniture shops and workshops were gutted in fire amounting to huge losses.
